Il cortometraggio è un genere a sé, come lo è il racconto a fronte del romanzo, ma anche come lo è il western, la commedia e l’horror. Ad un cortometraggio si chiede incisività, brevi tratti che abbozzano un quadro più grande, più ampio di quanto il tempo permetta. A molti cortometraggi riesce di raccontare una storia compiuta, ad alcuni di costruire un’emozione, ad altri di avere una coerenza stilistica o una valenza tecnica, a pochi riesce di costruire un ambiente, a pochissimi di rappresentare una società, un momento storico, un’ideale.
